The Bless Community is a small charity that started during COVID-19 delivering meals and food parcels to vulnerable parishioners near Wentbridge. They had a vision: turn a neglected allotment into a space where people with dementia could work with the soil, children could learn about sustainability, and generations could meet.
We helped build it.
What the project involved
- Weedkilling and full site clearance
- Accessible footpaths and hard standing for wheelchair access
- A dedicated area for an Eco Toilet, raised planters, and storage shed
- Sensory garden features designed for people with memory challenges
- Monetary donation and activity bags for young participants
- A commemorative plaque
The project was completed through coordinated effort between Civcon, National Highways, Bless, and supply chain partners.
Why it matters
Upton is within three miles of the Wentbridge Viaduct — an area we work in. The National Highways relationship that made this possible reflects the kind of supply chain partnership we value: one where the contractor cares about more than the contract.
An eco allotment won’t make headlines. But for the families using it — the parent whose relative has dementia, the child planting seeds for the first time — it’s a real and lasting thing.
