Bradford Council needed a traffic calming scheme delivered across Duncombe Road and the West Bowling area. Both streets are well-used residential roads with no obvious quiet window — traffic runs through most of the day, and the surrounding area is dense enough that any significant disruption would be felt quickly.
The works involved installing road plateaus and speed humps at intervals across both streets. Twelve weeks on the programme.
The sequencing was the main thing to get right. Heavy construction phases were pushed to weekends, keeping the streets broadly passable through the week. Signage was in place early and updated as each phase moved along — residents and commuters knew what was happening and when.
The scheme finished on time. Both streets now have the infrastructure in place that Bradford Council were after.
